The device will still have a trial version of Emsisoft, but it will no longer be part of your workspace.
You can then also uninstall the antimalware, as per our guide here.

When naming a new customer workspace, you may have got an error message saying: “The workspace name is already in use”. But why is that? In this article, we will explain why we have chosen this architecture for MyEmsisoft.

Potential confusion

An obvious reason for having a unique naming requirement is to avoid confusing your workspace with another one. However, at first glance that is only relevant when both same-name workspaces are used within the same user or Emsisoft Partner scope.

MyEmsisoft is designed as a multi-tenant system, which means users can be members of multiple workspaces. It is impossible to know which workspaces someone may want to join in the future.

As an Emsisoft Partner, you may have customers that want to bring their workspace over from different accounts.

Account security

An even more relevant reason to always use unique workspace names is account security. Imagine receiving an email invitation to join a duplicate, non-authorized workspace which uses the same name as yours – but it is not your own. Just like a phishing attack, you would not be able to determine if the invitation is for the correct workspace or not.

If you are an Emsisoft Partner, you certainly don’t want threat actors coming after your clients by setting up a duplicate workspace and inviting them in. Worst case scenario, someone could trick people into (re-)deploying endpoint protection and then use the management console to get access to information that they are not supposed to see.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware

On June 24th, 2015, we announced that we would no longer be officially supporting Windows XP and Windows Vista after April of 2016 (the announcement can be found at this link). We have publicly mentioned several times that version 11 of our products will not run on Windows XP or Windows Vista. Since version 11 entered public beta testing on October 24th 2015 (the announcement is available at this link), we’re sure that many of our customers are confused about whether or not they will still have protection on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Below is a list of information about version 11, version 10, and how Windows XP and Windows Vista support will be handled.

  • Version 11 will officially support the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012.
  • Version 11 and later will not install or run on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, regardless of whether or not you have enabled the option to receive Beta Updates.
  • Version 10 will continue to work on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, providing the same protection that it already does.
  • Version 10 will be able to download database updates until support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 officially ends at the end April, 2016.
  • We do not currently plan to publish any further program updates for version 10, which means that 10.0.0.5735 (the current stable release of version 10) will be the last release of version 10.

Emsisoft Emergency Kit

Emsisoft Emergency Kit doesn’t require installation. Version 11 of the program can’t be executed on operating systems prior to Windows 7.

Why are we doing this?

It’s not our intention to push our customers to buy a new computer, but we have to face reality here: Both XP and Vista lack significant security features in their core structure, which is holding us back from protecting users to the highest possible level. You can read more about our point of view in our following blog article: https://www.emsisoft.com/en/blog/20416/why-we-believe-its-not-ethical-to-sell-antivirus-software-for-windows-xp-any-longer/

If you have questions about any of this, then please feel free to contact our support. You can contact our support by creating a new topic in one of our product support forums, by filling out our contact form on our helpdesk at this link, or by sending an e-mail to support@emsisoft.com and we’ll try to answer your questions as soon as possible.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware

To uninstall Emsisoft Anti-Malware normally use Apps & Features section of your Windows 10. It uninstalls much like any other program.

Follow the uninstall program’s instructions and restart the computer to apply the changes. Restarting is mandatory to unload the driver.

The product should now be uninstalled. In the rare case of an incomplete uninstall, you can use Emsiclean to remove any remaining traces of the program.

Emsisoft Emergency Kit

Emsisoft Emergency Kit is portable software, and doesn’t install any files outside of its installation folder. By default, this is C:\EEK

Restart your computer. This will unload the Emsisoft Emergency Kit’s driver from memory. Remove the installation folder, by default C:\EEK, and any Emsisoft Emergency Kit icon from your desktop.

The product should now be uninstalled. In the rare case of an incomplete uninstall, you can use Emsiclean to remove any remaining traces of the program.

Using Emsiclean

In the rare case of an incomplete uninstall of Emsisoft Anti-Malware or Emsisoft Emergency Kit, you can use Emsiclean to remove any remaining traces of the program.

  1. Download Emsiclean from the following link: https://dl.emsisoft.com/Emsiclean.zip
  2. Run Emsiclean with Administrative rights. You will be presented with a message regarding the program’s privacy policy. You must confirm your agreement in order to continue.
  3. Emsiclean will scan your computer for any files that may have been left over after uninstallation and offer the option to remove them. Don’t elect to remove these traces at this time.
  4. Towards the bottom right, is the button “Close Emsisoft Clean”. Click this button to close the program without applying changes to your computer.
  5. Emsiclean will save a log to your desktop when it closes (it will take a few seconds before the log appears).
  6. Open a support ticket from this page and attach the log that Emsiclean created. Specify in your message that you have followed this guide Following this final step allows you to receive advice from our experts before proceeding. It is also possible to proceed at your own risk without advice, however we bear no responsibility for any damage that may be caused by using this software without the supervision of an Emsisoft expert. Please clearly indicate which of our programs you were trying to uninstall in cases where more than one is installed.

Emsisoft Mobile Security

To uninstall the application, please go to the device’s Settings menu, then choose “Apps” or “Application Manager”, search for Emsisoft Mobile Security and touch it to uninstall. Alternatively, you can search for the app icon on the application screen of your device, touch it and keeping your finger on the screen until you can move the icon, drag it into the trash displayed at the top of the screen.

You’ll need to disable Emsisoft Mobile Security as device administrator in order to uninstall the app. Please simply follow the messages during the uninstall process to do so. To migrate an Emsisoft Anti-Malware license seat to a different computer, follow the steps below:

1. Remove the program from the old computer through Windows Start > All Programs > Emsisoft Anti-Malware and use the Uninstall option, or use the standard Windows “Uninstall a Program” or “Apps” list depending on the Windows version used. If the computer is no longer working you can disregard the uninstallation.

2. Sign into http://my.emsisoft.com find the old computer in the Workspace or personal license list as applicable. On the right side of the machine’s entry, click on the icon with the three vertical dots and choose “remove protection”. Note that it might be shown as “Clear seat” instead.

remove protection

3. Download the latest version of our software to the new computer directly by logging into your MyEmsisoft account, then clicking the “Download and install protection” button on the upper-right side of the page to download the installer. Do not rename the file that is downloaded, because the long name is required for activation to work properly.

Download and Install protection

4. Run the downloaded installer, and it should take care of installing and/or activating with your subscription for you. If you already have Emsisoft Anti-Malware installed, the installer will not appear to do anything when you run it, but it will activate Emsisoft Anti-Malware with your subscription.

5. Open Emsisoft Anti-Malware, or wait for it to open if this is a new installation, and click on “Update Now” in the lower right to update and synchronize with your subscription.

update now

Note: If you have any other active antivirus on the computer, we recommend uninstalling that software and restarting the computer prior to installing Emsisoft Anti-Malware.
